Minister inaugurates parks

Promises steps to maintain roads

CHENNAI: Electricity and Rural Industries Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy declared open two parks and three renovated school buildings in the Anna Nagar constituency on Monday.

He promised that the Government would take steps to improve and maintain roads and parks in the State.

The park opposite the Shrine of Divine Mercy Church in Anna Nagar `G' Block of around 3,700 square metre area has been built at a cost of Rs.14.15 lakh.

It includes play area for children, footpath, lawns and flowering shrubs.

The Periyar EVR lane off EVR High Road now has a children's play area flanked by a footpath with benches and lamps. Residents' associations and party functionaries felicitated the Minister.

Blocks with eight new classrooms were inaugurated at both the Corporation high school in Vellala Street and the middle school `N' block MMDA Colony, built at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh and Rs. 69.6 lakh each respectively.

Four classrooms and two labs have been added to the Corporation girls' high school in Shenoy Nagar for Rs. 58.65 lakh.

Teachers and heads of schools interacted with the Minister. Deputy Mayor, `Karate' R. Thiagarajan, and Commissioner, M.P. Vijayakumar, participated in the event.
