Zoo closed for I-Day

CHENNAI: The Arignar Anna Zoological Park will be closed on Independence Day. According to a release, the park will however be open on August 16 and 17.

Yoga classes from August 20

The next batch of yoga classes conducted by Satyananda Yoga Centre will start from August 20. The one-month free classes will be held at Bala Vidya HS School at Vasudevapuram in West Mambalam. The timings are from 5.30 a.m. to 7 am.

An evening of Malayalam songs

Living Dreams will organise a musical evening of evergreen Malayalam film songs titled `Aengine Nee Marakkum,' on August 19 at Vani Mahal on G.N. Chetty Road. Musicians P.B. Sreenivas and M.S. Temple cleaning in Villivakkam

Sevas will organise a temple cleaning service at Damodara Perumal Koil in Villivakkam on August 20 between 8.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. Those who want to participate in the service as well as the Srivari Seva Service, contact 044-22412582 for details.

Blood donation camp organised

The National Service Scheme and Youth Red Cross of Alpha Arts and Science College conducted a blood donation camp on August 10. More than 160 units of blood were collected from students at the camp organised by Lions Club of Velachery, and the College.

Disaster management programme Thiru. Vi.Ka. Higher Secondary School in Shenoy Nagar conducted a `Disaster Management' programme for school children from August 7 to 11. More than 1,000 students from various schools, both Government and aided, participated in the programme. Mumbai-based SARISTA provided mock drills and practical training in case of earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters as well as during nuclear hazards and terrorist attacks.

Aurobindo Society to be shifted

Sri Aurobindo Society in Anna Nagar will move to another location on August 15. It is located on the second floor of the building, from where the Society functions now: AP-514, J Block, 8th Street, Anna Nagar.

Apart from a meditation and prayer hall, the centre will have a library and a reading room. The centre will be open on all days between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Dies in car crash

A 60-year-old man died when the car he was driving crashed on the barricade of the Chennai bypass on Sunday. Police said Rangarajan, a retired Superintendent at Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, had gone to Pudukottai and was returning home in Porur. Near Kannadapalayam, he is reported to have lost control of his car that came to a halt after dashing against the barricade.

He was crushed to death by the steering wheel, police added.
