CHENNAI : Three persons were arrested on charges of selling adulterated petrol and 38 litres seized from them on Monday. Police said that following a tip-off that a gang sold adulterated petrol at a specific place in T Nagar, a surprise check was conducted. Sekar, Rajkumar and Appu were arrested.
Gambling
The T. Nagar police arrested 84 persons and seized Rs 10,000 in cash from a gambling club. According to a press note issued here on Monday, following reports of irregularities in massage clubs and recreation clubs, the police conducted raids. During a surprise check, they found persons indulging in gambling at 16 places. A tight vigil is also being kept at specific parlours which lure people into illegal acts.
Nabbed in cheating case
The Central Crime Branch police arrested Annadurai of Ayyanavaram on charges of non-settlement of wages to 52 labourers from Tiruvannamalai district. A CCB officer investigating the case said on Monday that following a complaint from one Karnan from Tiruvannamalai district that Annadurai, running a private security agency, had asked them to dig and lay cables in Mumbai for which he promised Rs 200 as wage per meter. Along with 51 people, Karnan went to Mumbai and worked since March this year. However, a total of Rs 30,768 due to them was not settled. Hence they returned home.
Threatened
Meanwhile, the labourers alleged that they were threatened on the wage issue, a press note said. After registering a case, the police arrested Annadurai and remanded him to custody today. Further investigation is on.
