Digital knowledge centre at varsity

Facility will help students, faculty access online libraries

Chennai : Anna University is all set to get a state-of-the-art Digital Knowledge Centre, thanks to the efforts undertaken by the Class of 1979 of the College of Engineering, Guindy.

The centre, which will be set up with the help of contributions made by the alumni, will be inaugurated on Tuesday by Vice Chancellor, D. Viswanathan. Spread over 2,000 square feet, the Rs 70-lakh centre will have a browsing section and a content section. The alumni contribution alone is Rs 25 lakh.

The new centre is expected to help researchers, students and faculty keep abreast of the latest developments by facilitating access to free/subscription digital libraries around the world.

The university will also be able to upload its own research on to its servers, thus enabling access by peer researchers around the world.

All funding is by individual members alone. The infrastructure was set up in a record time of 30 days.
