HYDERABAD: Spirit of nationalism gripped school students on Monday as some were engaged in tying national flags, decorating blackboards while others were preparing backdrops capturing the mood of Independence Day. Portraits depicting `Charkha' of Mahatma Gandhi, freedom fighters and other prominent leaders adorned the school walls. There was a buzz in the air and last minute rehearsals for the big day dominated the school activity in most parts of the city on Monday. Ask what does Independence Day means to them? "Freedom," pat came the reply. "This is a day to be proud about the nation's achievements and remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters," said Rahul Chopra, class VI student of Geetanjali School. "We should use our talent to make India a better place to live in," is his roadmap for the nation's future. However, Abhinav Padmanabhan of Hyderabad Public School finds the day appealing because of flag hoisting. "We sing `Sare Jahan Se Achcha' on Independence Day which means that our country is best amongst all," he says.
