`Democracy' takes root on campuses

DEMOCRATIC TRADIITON: `School parliament' in session at Stella Maris School.

BANGALORE: Stella Maris High School, Gayathridevi Park Extension, held its first "school parliament" session recently. Sr. Therese Marie, president of the house, inaugurated the session.

All the members of "school parliament" took oath to serve the institution honestly. In her address, the president said that the first session held out new chances and new hopes to all members. She reminded the members to earn respect by taking sound decisions, admitting their mistakes and putting what was best for their fellow students and the institution.

School pupil leader and "prime minister" Arlene Margret Vaz with her cabinet, supported the president's speech. Opposition leader Divya Ramesh along with her party members assured support for the smooth running of administration.

Magazine launch

National Public School, Koramangala, released its maiden school magazine "Resonance" recently. Santhamma Gopalakrishna, dean of the school, was the chief guest. Principal Bindu Hari praised the hard work done by the editorial team. She spoke of the quality of its content that showcased the talent and brilliance of students.

Elections

To make students understand how a democratic system works, Oxford English High School, Nagarabhavi, conducted elections for students' council recently. "It is our endeavour to mould these students into responsible leaders. They have an important role to play because they are the citizens of tomorrow," said principal Usha. Institution secretary B.R. Supreeth congratulated the new leaders.

Mohammed Salman Pasha and Kavitha H. were elected school captain and vice-captain respectively.

Soccer tourney

Ryan International School, Kundalahalli, conducted a "5 - a side" soccer tournament recently. Mallya Aditi "B" and Bishop Cotton Boys' School reached the finals. Bishop Cotton retained the "5 - a side Ryan Rolling Trophy". School chairman A.F. Pinto spoke.
