Sea rescue force formed

20 youths trained to man operations

KOZHIKODE: The Koyilandy Municipality has formed a ``Kadal Raksha Sena'' (sea rescue force), consisting of youth.

It will be deployed for speedy rescue of fishermen lost in the sea, or during other eventualities.

Municipal chairman K. Dasan said here on Monday that earlier, boats with trained personnel had to come all the way from Beypore to rescue the fishermen in distress. This exercise took time. Now, 20 skilled youths were trained in use of life-jacket and lifebuoy. They were also trained in precautions required while venturing into the sea and in methods of escape from disasters. Two youths were selected each of the 10 municipal wards.
