BANGALORE: An ex-serviceman was found murdered in Madivala police station limits in the city on Monday. The police said passers-by found the body of Rajendra (50) in a drain, near Jnana Jyothi School, in Hongasandra on Hosur Road. His head had been smashed with a boulder. A native of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, Rajendra was a resident of 2nd Cross, Hongasandra. He was employed as a guard with a private security agency here. The police said Rajendra, who was in the habit of drinking, had left his house around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday to have a drink. The reason for the murder is not known. The Madivala police have registered a case.
Driver stabbed
An autorickshaw driver was stabbed following a petty quarrel in the City Market police station limits on Sunday. The police said that around 9.30 p.m. Syed Munaf (28), a resident of Padarayanapura, was having an omelette at a roadside eatery near the BMTC bus stand in the K.R. Market. Some men accosted him and posed him a question in English, when Pasha did not reply; they reportedly stabbed him with a knife on the face and in the abdomen. Two fellow autorickshaw drivers rushed an injured Pasha to a hospital, the police said. The City Market police have registered a case.
Held
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff on Sunday raided a hotel at Shivanagar on West of Chord Road and arrested 20 people, including the hotel cashier, on gambling charge. The police seized stake money of Rs. 1.66 lakh and 17 mobile phones, value at Rs. 1 lakh, from them.
Recovered
The Wilson Garden police have arrested Kumar alias Kothi Kumar (26) of Hombegowdananagar slum on the charge of vehicle theft and recovered six autorickshaws, valued at Rs. 4.50 lakh in all. The police said the accused stole the autorickshaws when the drivers had parked them near hotels, pan stalls and lottery centres without locking the vehicles. Kumar had stolen the vehicles from Wilson Garden, Shankarapuram and Kalasipalyam police station limits, the police said.
Seized
The J.P. Nagar police have arrested two youths on theft charge and recovered from them a laptop and 10 mobile phones, together valued at Rs. 1.25 lakh. The police gave the names of the arrested as Amzad Zia (21) and Mohammad Umar (19), both residents of Mysore.
Chain snatched
A man put his hands through an open window and snatched a gold chain from a 10-month-old baby who was asleep at her house in Malleswaram police station limits on Monday. The incident occurred around 3.30 a.m. at K.M. Anand's first floor house on 11th Cross, Margosa Road, the police said.
