BANGALORE: Former Lok Ayukta N. Venkatachala on Monday said politicians were unwilling to give powers to the Lok Ayukta for the fear of losing their powers. Speaking at the launch of Justice N. Venkatachala Brhastachara Nirmulana Aandolana here, he said though the Government had been repeatedly giving assurances of according powers to the Lok Ayukta, no action had been taken. He said that the demand for suo motu powers for the Lok Ayutka to investigate cases of mismanagement by government employees had been pending before the Government for long. The Government had not taken any decision on it despite making assurances. Politicians were averse to taking stringent action to root out corruption, he added. He said that he would continue his campaign against corruption in the Government, which, he stated, was affecting the economy of the country. He urged the youth to fight against corruption. The Right to Information Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act could be effectively used to punish corrupt officers, he said. The Brhastachara Nirmulana Aandolana, a movement against corruption, should spread across the State, he said. Jayant Tinekar, who exposed the stamp paper racket involving Abdul Kareem Telgi, spoke.
