Good year for ryots: Minister

Recent rain filled the Ghanpur, Nallavagu, other minor irrigation tanks

Sangareddy: Minister for Tourism, Sugar and Industries J. Geeta Reddy has forecast a good year for farmers in the district with the recent rain filling the Ghanpur, Nallavagu and other minor irrigation tanks.

Addressing the Independence Day celebrations here on Tuesday, the Minister said that farmers still had a chance to bring in 2.21 lakh hectares under irrigation with the help of the water stored in the tanks.

Enlisting various developmental programmes undertaken by the Government, she said that more than two lakh people had found gainful employment under the APREGP and Rs. 9.85 crores had been spent on providing drinking water to 265 habitations under the Indiramma scheme.

Ms. Reddy said that Rs. 44 crores had been spent on the construction of school buildings.
