Rain a damper to children at parade
The Independence Day parade at the Central Stadium here was a smooth affair despite intermittent rain. The armed units of the Police Department, the Fire and Rescue Services and the Prisons Department marched to the tune of the police band, unmindful of the rain that attempted to play spoilsport.
Breaking with tradition, Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham took the mike and said children participating in the parade could disperse as the rain was becoming intense and the ceremony was far from over. On the Commissioner's order, girls and boys of the National Cadet Corps and the Bharath Scouts and Guides dispersed in proper order.
