Letters to the Editor
August 15 is increasingly becoming a day of paying lip service to the nation. From the media to leaders and corporates, nationalism has become a means to an end. The battle against corruption is proving to be much more difficult than the war of independence. Unless the people follow the teachings of Gandhi, freedom will remain illusory. It will be confined to flag hoisting, rendering of patriotic songs and paying tributes to martyrs.
Joseph Frankel,
It has become routine for terrorists to send bomb threats ahead of August 15. Our security forces are on their toes day and night till the Prime Minister hoists the national flag. Even the President is protected because of security threat. Thousands of lives were lost in the freedom struggle. One wonders how many will be lost before out nation gets freedom from terrorists. India will become truly independent only when it becomes free of terrorism.
Every household is aware of the endless sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. The nation has lived up to their trust in its unity and integrity. With a surging economy and overall growth, it is poised to become one of the leading nations of the world, besides becoming a source of inspiration for its neighbours.
A.A. Khaleel,
