Writing their way to glory

PROLIFIC RECORD: The Agrawals

Good old Delhi's Chandni Chowk-based couple Subhash Chandra Agrawal and Madhu Agrawal have entered the Limca Book of Records for having published the maximum number of "letters to the editor" in various newspapers and magazines in India and abroad.

The latest tally of published letters up to June 30 this year for Subhash Chandra Agrawal stands at 10,629 making him a world record holder in the general category, while his wife Madhu with 7,775 published letters holds the world record in the women's category.

The two are already listed in the Guinness Book of World Records where a separate category for women does not exist. However, Madhu is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the maximum letters published in a calendar year. The spirited couple have been actively engaged in social work for years now through writing letters in the columns of various newspapers about a vast range of social issues concerning national and public interest.

They also have an impressive collection of letters from Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Prime Ministers, Governors and Chief Ministers among others who have written to the couple in response to their published suggestions. -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
