Pulp industry in for major expansion: Minister

KHAMMAM: Minister for Higher Education Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao has said the pulp industry expansion programme would be taken up in the district with an outlay of Rs. 2,500 crores.

Unfurling the national flag at the Police Parade grounds here as part of the Independence Day celebrations, he said the new units would come up in Nellipaka area of Aswapuram mandal. Land acquisition for the purpose was also in progress.

He said a new power unit with 130 MW capacity would be set up in the area at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crores.

The government had already sanctioned an irradiation plant for improving the shelf life of fruits, chilli and seeds. The plant would cost Rs 8 crores.

He said that the development of 13 agriculture market yards in the district was taken up with an outlay of Rs 2.22 crores.
