MACHILIPATNAM: Unfurling the national flag on the occasion of 60th Independence Day here on Tuesday, Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao said the Government's welfare programmes and schemes were moving in the right direction and the State was set to become "Haritandhra Pradesh" (a green Andhra Pradesh). The Minister, who inspected the guard of honour presented by police personnel at the Police Parade Grounds, expressed happiness over the seasonal conditions and the positive atmosphere prevailing among farmers of Krishna district. "As water has been released into the canals much in advance this year, farmers have been able to complete the sowing early," he remarked. Mr. Ranga Rao said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was committed to the welfare of farmers, which's why a target of Rs. 1,200 crores had been fixed for disbursement of loans to farmers this year. Many awareness programmes had been taken up to spread awareness about modern farming techniques among farmers. The Minister said Rs.68.5 lakhs had been sanctioned for laying a double-lane road along the riverbund of the Krishna from Vijayawada to Puligadda. As many as 1.09 lakh houses would be constructed under Indiramma programme. Mr. Ranga Rao assured the farmers of Krishna district that the Government was committed to completing Pulichintala and Polavaram projects, which would benefit them immensely. He called upon farmers to to get new pumpsets of ISI mark with 80 per cent subsidy. The Minister revealed that Rs.13 crores would be spent this year to develop a total of 88-kms of roads in the district. Development of Vijayawada had been taken up earnestly, as evident from the large outlays achieved under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for water supply and underground drainage works.

Mr. Ranga Rao expressed happiness over the Krishna Collectorate's achievement of getting an ISO-9001 certificate, a first in the country. The portal www.krishna.gov.in was helping the NRIs of the district to sponsor rural development works.
