KHAMMAM: As flood-hit areas are streaming back to their villages, the administration has closed 172 of the 177 relief camps in the district. Only five relief camps were being continued catering to the needs of 296 families, which were still not in a position to go back to their places. The three IAF helicopters, engaged in the rescue and relief operations were sent back on Tuesday. The administration has thanked the team of IAF officials, who had helped in airdropping some 2.5 lakh food packets by making 85 sorties during the past one week. The helicopters helped the shifting six emergency cases to the hospital thus saving their lives during the floods. Some 50,370 people moved to their homes leaving the relief camps till Monday. Each family was provided with 20 kg of rice and five litres of kerosene while leaving the camps. The crop losses would be assessed from Wednesday.
