BUDDING HEROES: Schoolchildren dress up as national leaders as part of the I-Day celebrations in Tirupati on Tuesday.
TIRUPATI: Patriotic fervour was all-pervasive when the Tricolour fluttered atop buildings and posts in various Government establishments, universities and schools in Tirupati on Monday as part of the 60th Independence day. At the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams headquarters here, the Executive Officer APV Narayana Sarma hoisted the flag, inspected a parade and received a guard of honour from the vigilance and security guards. Mr. Sarma later presented medals and commendation letters to 27 employees for rendering meritorious services. At Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, the vice-chancellor Harekrishna Satapathy praised the designer of the Tricolour, Pingali Venkaiah, for including saffron, white and green, representing values like courage, tranquility and harmony in the flag.
`Peace on campus'
SVU Vice-Chancellor S.Jayarama Reddy hoisted the flag at the Engineering College premises and appealed to students to maintain peace on campus. He later distributed bedsheets to the 195 inmates of ST welfare hostel for girls. SVIMS dean and in-charge vice-chancellor B.Vengamma hoisted the flag. Associate Director (Research), P.V.Reddy hoisted the flag at ANGRAU's Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) and appealed to the scientists to focus on farm-oriented research.
Blood donation
NCC cadets of 5 Andhra Girls Battalion donated blood at the Ruia Government Hospital here as part of a camp. At the Southern Discom corporate office, the CMD P.Gopal Reddy unfurled the tricolour.
A word to boys
At the Government Observation home in Thatithopu, MLA M.Venkatramana hoisted the flag and asked the boys to brave the circumstances and rewrite their destiny. District Tourism Officer E.Anjaneyulu hoisted the flag at the Tourist Information Centre. Members of Srivari Blood Donors Association (SBDA) donated blood at TTD's Central Hospital.
Tribute via painting
A novel programme was conducted at TTD's Bal Bhavan, where an artist S.Satyanarayana painted portraits depicting the freedom struggle in rhythm to the patriotic songs sung by schoolchildren and events narrated in the background. Chittoor: Minister of Minorities Welfare Fariduddin Mohammad unfurled the Tricolour along with district Collector S.S. Rawath and Superintendent of Police V.V. Gopalakrishna at the Police Grounds here. Addressing the gathering he paid rich tributes to those fighters who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom.
