Irrigation projects planned in a big way: Dharmana

  • Government making efforts to use available water from all sources, says Minister

    Srikakulam : Minister for Revenue and Relief Dharmana Prasada Rao has said the Government decided to take up irrigation projects in a big way and strengthen embankments of all important rivers in the State keeping in view the recent floods.

    Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the Independence Day here on Tuesday, Mr. Prasada Rao said the Government was making efforts to make use of available water from all sources on a permanent basis.

    Welfare programmes

    He listed the welfare programmes initiated by the Government like `Indiramma' and underlined the need to rope in people in the implementation of all developmental activities.

    The Minister praised Collector V.N. Vishnu, Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah and Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar and their staff for rising to the occasion and extending all possible aid to the affected persons.

    Honoured

    Later he gave away merit certificates to officials -- Rahul Pandey, project director, District Water Development Agency, DRO, B. Yadagiri, revenue divisional officers - S. Venkateswara Rao (Srikakulam), P.M.J. Babu (Palakonda), Ch. Rama Lakshmi (Tekkali) and B. Nookaraju, District Public Relations Officer, Ramakrishna, DPRO (Palakonda), and others.

    Tri-colour all over

    Rajahmundry: Patriotic spirit marked the 60th Independence Day celebrations in various parts in Rajahmundry on Tuesday.

    At a function, A.A. Khan of ONGC recalled the role of freedom fighters during the struggle for independence.

    The Chartered Accountants of India, Rajahmundry branch, celebrated the occasion at its new office. V.S. Prakasha Rao, chairman of the branch and Sundararama Rao, vice-chairman, and others were present.

    Independence Day was also celebrated at AM B.Ed College, Rajamahendri Degree and PG College for Women and Gowthami Library.

    It was also celebrated by various organisations with patriotic fervour.
