HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president K. Keshava Rao has said that the real fruits of independence would be felt only when economic and social justice was ensured. The Congress was pursuing policies in that direction, he said after unfurling the tricolour at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday. Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, was also present. Dr. Reddy spent over half-an-hour with the leaders as he was early for the official Independence Day celebrations at Parade Grounds.
At TDP office
Telugu Desam Party senior vice-president G. Sukhender Reddy unfurled the national flag at the party office as president N. Chandrababu Naidu is away touring flood-hit districts. Another vice-president Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Masqati hoisted the party flag. Addressing party workers, senior leader Ch. Rajeswara Rao, lamented that so many years after independence, poverty and several social issues remain unsolved. In contrast, China could achieve rapid progress making full use of the available human resources.
BJP's accusation
BJP State president N. Indrasena Reddy has accused the Congress of going soft on Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) activities to appease minorities. Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the BJP State office, Mr. Reddy said the Congress had always followed the path of divisive politics and violence.
Land reforms
CPI State secretary K. Narayana unfurled the national flag at the party State headquarters Makhdoom Bhavan in the presence of senior party leaders like Dasari Nagabhushana Rao, B. Dharmabhiksham and others. Speaking on the occasion, he criticised the successive Governments that ruled the State for failing to take up land reforms that would have ensured that the benefits of the ambitious Jala Yagnam programme reached all sections of society. The Jala Yagnam programme would turn fruitful to only a handful of landlords pending land distribution to all eligible poor, he said.
