NEW DELHI: Punna Vishal went down fighting 3-6, 7-6(4), 4-6 to the champion of the first leg, Yuri Bezeruk of Australia, in the first round of the ITF Satellite tennis circuit second leg at the DLTA Complex here on Tuesday. In a gripping climax, the former Davis Cupper, Vishal led 4-2 but was quite exhausted by then to capitalise on the advantage. The wild card entrant could not eventually win another game as Bezeruk's clever placements saw him through. Bezeruk will next meet the 16-year-old Sriram Balaji who defeated qualifier Tzu-Yang Lin of Chinese Taipei in straight sets. Navdeep Singh played sensibly after losing the first set at love, against qualifier Patrick Eichenberger of Switzerland. Kamala Kannan went down to Aqeel Khan as he lost the last 10 games after leading 6-2, 4-2. It was such a meek and abrupt surrender that Kannan did not win a point in six of those last ten games. The results (first round): V.M. Ranjeet bt Yu-Da Shieh (Tpe) 6-2, 6-0; Aqeel Khan bt Kamala Kannan 2-6, 6-4, 6-0; Navdeep Singh bt Patrick Eichenberger (Sui) 0-6, 6-2, 6-3; Divij Sharan bt Mustafa Ghouse 3-6, 6-2, 6-3; Nima Roshan (U.S.) bt Vishnu Vardhan 7-6(3), 7-6(3); Sriram Balaji bt Tzu-Yang Lin (Tpe) 6-4, 6-3; Yuri Bezeruk (Aus) bt Punna Vishal 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4; Peter Shults (U.S.) bt P.C. Vignesh 6-2, 6-4; Pathanjali Ravishankar bt Kiran Nandakumar 6-3, 6-4.
