MADURAI: Madurai, Chennai, Salem and Coimbatore entered the semifinals in the boys' team event, while Chennai, Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore and Madurai made the last four grade in the girls' section in the Vaigai Tamil Nadu State junior inter-district badminton championship organised by Madurai District Badminton Association and SDAT - Temple City Badminton Academy here on Tuesday. The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Chennai bt Namakkal 2-0 (Velavan bt Karthik 21-4, 21-10; Manikandan/ Sathya Naryana Rao bt Venkatesh/ Mohanraj 21-9, 21-7). Madurai bt Virudhunagar 2-0 (Bharath Arun bt R. Vignesh 16-21, 21-15, 21-15; Prakash Raja/ Nishanth bt Vignesh/Sudharsan 21-14, 21-13). James Raj powered his way to a brilliant 102 to help Ramesh Flowers Recreation Club post an emphatic 209 run victory over Seconds Cricket Club `A' and enter the semifinals of the 17th annual L.P. Rayan memorial Trophy district-level cricket tournament at Tuticorin on Tuesday. The scores (quarterfinals): Ramesh Flowers RC 287 for seven in 30 overs (James Raj 102, Edwin 48, S.P. Nahan 42) bt Seconds CC `A' 78 in 23 overs (Dharmaraj four for 21). Power CC 226 for six in 30 overs (Rajasekar 68, Ramesh 49 not out) bt Sea Lines CC 113 in 22.4 overs (Jeyabalakrishnan four for 28). Janarthanan posts win V.S.M.R. Janarthanan of Sourashtra Club beat Shafeer Ali of Pot Black Centre 100-45, 100-40 in the 12th annual Madurai District billiards ranking tournament organised by the Madurai District Billiards and Snooker Association at the Union Club Billiards Hall here on Tuesday.
