Labour Minister P.K.Gurudasan told a meeting of employers and employees convened to discuss the problems of the sector here on Monday that around 25 cashew factories, which had remained closed, were reopened and had resumed functioning after the present Government assumed office.

Some 30,000 workers benefited from it. As many as 167 vacancies of doctors in ESI hospitals would be filled immediately. An Ayurveda hospital would be opened under the ESI scheme in Thrissur soon.

The next meeting of the industrial relations committee for the cashew industry would take a decision on the bonus to be paid to the cashew workers this year, he added.
