Training agencies coming to Kochi State has immense potential in the sector
KOCHI: Aviation sector has been witnessing an unprecedented boom. With more private airlines entering the scene after the opening up of the sector, the aviation industry has been facing new challenges. One of them is the scarcity of qualified hands to handle different jobs. Though Kerala has a rich tradition in supplying the required manpower for various occupations, the State has not been able to provide appropriately trained candidates for the aviation sector. Various agencies associated with aviation have been searching for fresh talent to be trained for various jobs in the sector. Kochi is one of the potential cities that these agencies bank on for selecting the right candidates. "Keralite youth are efficient; they perform well if proper training is provided," says K.R. Sasikumar Menon, managing director of Kairali Aviation Services, which is planning to open a training centre for cabin crew in Kochi. Mr. Menon says the course will be based on the requirements for cabin crew as stipulated by the civil aviation authorities. In fact, the candidates will have to pass the examinations approved by the authorities once they join the airline companies. He says there is a heavy rush at selection camps of prominent airline companies. In most airlines, the initial salary offered is in the range of Rs. 20,000 to 25,000. He has already started similar institutes in Bangalore and Indore. A flying club is also being planned in Indore. Sunsea Aviation Services Private Ltd., another company providing services in the aviation sector, is on a task of selecting pilot trainees. The Chennai-based company will organise a seminar in Kochi in September to select prospective candidates for a training course to be conducted in the U.S. It has a tie-up with Flight Academy of New Orleans, according to Ravi Sagar, director of the company. The licence will be issued by the U.S. authorities, he says. Kochi has immense potential as it is the commercial capital of Kerala and the company hopes to select a few candidates from the city, he adds.
