Double for Shankar, Thulasi

MANANTHAVADY: Shankar P. Gopan of Ernakulam and P.C. Thulasi of Thrissur emerged champions in their respective sections of the State junior badminton championship here on Sunday.

Shankar defeated Vishnu Prasad of Kozhikode 21-18, 21-14 in the boys' final, while Thulasi beat M. Sruthi of Kozhikode 21-11, 11-21, 21-11.

Both Shankar and Thulasi went on to score a double each, as they emerged champions in the doubles as well, in the company of Ram C. Vijay (Kozhikode) and M. Sruthi (Kozhikode), respectively.

The results: Boys' singles (final): Shankar P. Gopan (Ekm) bt Vishnu Prasad (Kzde) 21-18, 21-14.

Semifinals: Shankar bt Bennet Antony (Tsr) 21-15, 21-16; Vishnu bt Mithilesh Sundar (Kzde) 22-20, 21-14. Doubles (final): Shankar P. Gopan (Ekm) & Ram C. Vijay (Kzde) bt Bennet Antony & P.H. Sooraj (Tsr) 21-9, 21-12.

Girls' singles (final): P.C. Thulasi (Tsr) bt M. Sruthi (Kzde) 21-11, 11-21, 21-11.

Doubles (final): P.C. Thulasi (Tsr) & M. Sruthi (Kzde) bt P.S. Anumol & P.S. Linimol (Ekm) 21-10, 21-12. - Principal Correspondent
