KSEB opens account

Coimbatore: Riding on the brilliance of Manoj (30 pts) and Vineeth (24 pts), Kerala State Electricity Board (Thiruvananthapuram) opened its account scoring a hard fought 82-74 win over INS Shivaji (Lonavala) in the 42nd All India basketball tournament for the PSG Trophy at the PSG Tech courts in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The Kerala men, who had lost a close contest to Punjab State late Monday night, showed their opponents that they were in no mood to make mistakes again. Manoj kept up his good work on the right flank, as did Vineeth on the left. The duo got great support from their mates.

The scorecard for the first three quarters read 22-10, 43-30 and 59-50 in favour of KSEB — a clear indication that the Kerala team had come with its homework done well. Only in the third phase did the men from Lonavala show signs of catching up. They pressed hard for precious points but the Kerala defenders had smartly shut the door.

Late on Monday night, Punjab State played a brilliant last quarter to outplay KSEB 66-54 for its first win. Yanwinder (15 pts) and Jagdeep (13 pts) were the men in command for Punjab. Manoj (20) did a smart job for KSEB.
