TAKING THE SALUTE: Kodagu district in-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda inspecting the parade at the Fort in Madikeri on Tuesday.
MADIKERI: The Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition has ushered in revolutionary changes in governance since it came to power in the State, Science and Technology and Kodagu district in-charge Minister Ramachandra Gowda said here on Tuesday. He was delivering the Independence Day message after unfurling the Tricolor at the Fort. The Government expected far-reaching results from the programmes initiated by it, Mr. Gowda said. The Government led by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had been exemplary, Mr. Gowda said. The State had witnessed progress in many schemes such as the "Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan", "Akshara Dasoha" scheme providing midday meals to students, the distribution of bicycles to girl students, healthcare, introduction of the Bhagyalakshmi scheme for girl children, the Total Sanitation Project and the Bhagya Jyoti scheme, among others. Mr. Gowda sought the cooperation of the people in ensuring progress of the State. Recalling the contribution of leaders during the freedom struggle, Mr. Gowda urged the youth to combat the menace of terrorism. The non-violence movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi, the non-cooperation of Indian soldiers in the British army, and the efforts of Subhash Chandra Bose, who mobilised international support against foreign rule, were responsible for the end of British rule in India, he said. Mr. Gowda said a science centre would be set up in Kodagu district to take science and technology to people in rural areas. He said Rs. 2 crore would be provided for the centre. Small hydel projects would be encouraged in Kodagu. Seismological centres to monitor earthquakes as an advanced information measure would also be taken up. The heavy rain did not deter participants of the Independence Day celebrations. Mr. Gowda received salutes from the marching contingents comprising contingents of the police, DAR, NCC, Scouts and Guides and schoolchildren. Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav and Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao were present.
