KARIMNAGAR: Minister for Sports M. Satyanarayana Rao has said that the recent torrential rains had brought immense relief to farmers in general and to the upland drought mandals in particular. ``All irrigation tanks and lakes are filled to the brim. The Upper Manair Dam, which had remained dry since last one decade is also overflowing bringing cheer to the farming community of the drought-prone Sircilla, Nerella and Indurthi segments''. Speaking after unfurling the national flag at the police parade grounds on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day celebrations here on Tuesday , the Minister said that the rains had however caused extensive damage to roads and some houses. Property worth Rs. 27 crores has been damaged. He said the Government was taking all necessary steps towards repairing breached tanks, roads and rendering of financial help to farmers. He hoped the farmers will not have any problem for cultivation with heavy inflows into the irrigation projects.
