South Africa wants security certification

Colombo: The South African cricket team will take part in the Unitech ODI tri-series if an independent security agency, recruited by the International Cricket Council, clears the upgraded security measures here.

On an eventful Tuesday of hectic parleys, the team's media manager, Malcolm Templeton, conveyed the decision.

In all probability, an evaluation of the increased security would end before South Africa's first game against India on Saturday.

If the South Africans stay on, they would play the abandoned opening match with Sri Lanka on August 29, originally the date for the final. The title match will now be held on September 2.
