Award for Coast Guard officer

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: V. Radhakrishnan, serving at the Indian Coast Guard Station, Beypore, was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on the occasion of Independence Day for rendering 20 years of meritorious service.

A Subordinate Officer, Mr. Radhakrishnan joined the Indian Coast Guard in September 1987. He also served at the remote and hard stations at Campbell Bay, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Kavaratti, Lakshadweep.

Mr. Radhakrishnan, who hails from Kallai here, was actively associated with the setting up of the Beypore station. He was instrumental in carrying out the initial survey at the Beypore fishing harbour to explore logistics support and berthing facilities for ships and craft based under a Coast Guard station.

His frequent liaison with the district administration, the Fisheries Department and the Harbour Engineering Department in Kozhikode made it possible to acquire land for the station and establish other facilities. It was commissioned on May 25, 2006.
