BHOPAL: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Tuesday called upon the people to evolve a participatory work culture to help catapult Madhya Pradesh to rank among the most prosperous States of the country. The Chief Minister was addressing the people on Independence Day. He unfurled the national flag and took the salute at an impressive parade here. Mr. Chauhan said: "Our hard-earned freedom would hold meaning only when people get equal opportunity and benefits of development start percolating to the weaker sections.'' Greeting the people, the Chief Minister said everyone's participation was essential to convert the development process into a mass movement. He said the recent Mahila Panchayat in Bhopal was a step in this direction and soon a Kisan Panchayat would also be organised. Similar initiatives would also be taken for the welfare of forest dwellers, Scheduled Castes, the elderly and youth, he added. Mr. Chauhan said initiatives like Samadhan online, Lok Kalyan Shivir, and the Chief Minister's monitoring system intended to improve the public grievances' redress mechanism. Attainment of "Suraj through Swarajya'' (good governance through self-governance) was the prime goal. "Madhya Pradesh has secured the top position on fronts like Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme, public-private partnership, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid-day meal scheme, water supply in rural habitations, bio-gas plant installation, production of pulses, oilseeds, fishermen's cooperatives, insurance and e-governance." The Chief Minister said that various schemes aimed at ensuring the welfare of women, children and particularly the girl child would greatly alter the overall scenario in the near future. "The State Government has decided to reward those giving tip-off on female foeticide," he said Mr. Chauhan said the Government had decided to form the Rani Durgavati Battalion and recruit more women in the State police force. "The Government has also decided to start gender budgeting from the next fiscal." The Chief Minister earlier flagged off a National Cadet Corps' Yuva Shakti Sadbhavna car rally.
