UDUPI: The district unit of Janata Dal (Secular) presented a memorandum on Monday to Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj and Superintendent of Police A.S. Rao, urging them to close down live bands in Udupi district. In the memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, V. Ponnuraj, the President of Janata Dal (S) Deviprasad Shetty said that when Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy had banned livebands in the State, it was strange live bands should be functioning in Udupi. The livebands had a negative effect on the youth. Elements from underworld were involved in it that could destroy the peaceful atmosphere in the district. The Chief Minister has directed the Superintendent of Police of Udupi district to stop live bands. The workers of the district unit of the Janata Dal (S) would continue their struggle against livebands, until they are closed, the memorandum added.
