VIJAYAWADA : There is no respite for the dwellers of several habitations along the riverbank in the city and a few villages downstream Krishna barrage from flood threat. Irrigation officials said on Tuesday the discharge could go up to 5.6 lakh cusecs on Wednesday. It may just stop at that, provided there is no dramatic rise in the inflow into the barrage on account of any rain in the Munneru and other rivulets between Nagarjunasagar and the barrage. The discharge from the barrage, which showed a perceptible decline on Monday, was once again on the rise on Tuesday. From 3.97 lakh cusecs at 6 a.m., it went up to 4.39 lakh cusecs by 10 a.m., 4.75 lakh cusecs by 3 p.m., 4.96 lakh cusecs by 6 p.m. and 5.02 lakh cusecs by 7 p.m. The water level in the barrage remained at 13.9 feet, up from the 12-foot mark on Monday. Irrigation officials said though initially there was much inflow into the Tungabhadra dam, it began to decrease from 10 a.m. on Tuesday. At 6 p.m., the discharge from Tungabhadra dam, which was coming to the Srisailam, was about 1.17 lakh cusecs.
