Cola ban: US threat draws flak
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The Jana Vignana Vedika has criticised the alleged veiled threats held out by United States on the issue of banning of Coco Cola and Pepsi. In a statement, A. Ramachandraiah and K. L. Kantha Rao, president and general secretary of the Vedika, referred to the comments made by a US trade official. Regretting the ban, the official said it would hit India's economy as it comes at a time when the country was seeking foreign investments.
They said his comment was an attack on sovereignty and self-reliance of the country. Does the United States want us to consume drinks with high pesticide levels and remain silent? It is surprising that while the U.S. bans consumption of such drinks on its educational institutions, it opposes similar action in India, they added.
