Pregnant woman murdered

Staff Reporter

Man's first wife `kills' her

HYDERABAD: A woman allegedly killed her husband's second wife, who was seven-month-pregnant, by setting her ablaze in their house on Tuesday in Old City, the police said.

K. Ramesh, a caterer, was living in a rented house at Hanumannagar in Uppugada with his two wives, Laxmi and Saroja, for the past few years, the Chatrinaka police said

The two women were also working with a catering agent. Being pregnant, Saroja was not going to work of late.

"This led to differences between the two women and Laxmi reportedly fought with Ramesh saying she too would stop working if Saroja didn't go for work," Inspector S. Sudhakar said. Laxmi has a four-year-old daughter Anjali.

Around 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Laxmi doused Saroja in kerosene, set her on fire while the latter was preparing food and fled the spot, the police said. Ramesh claimed that he was in the bathroom then. By the time he came out, Saroja sustained 90 per cent burns.

She was taken to Osmania Genera Hospital where she died after an hour while undergoing treatment. Police are on the look out for Laxmi.
