Ras Al-Khaimah keen on Indian investments

Signs agreement with Navayuga Group for executing phase-I of GIS, IT project

HYDERABAD: The Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah (RAK) of the United Arab Emirates has initiated measures to attract Indian information technology companies, involved in IT solutions and Geographical Information Systems to assist it in e-governance projects.

It signed an agreement with the city-based Navayuga Group for executing the first phase of the GIS and IT project involving nine applications that would be completed in nine months.

This will be followed by the second and third phases in due course and the total project is estimated to cost US $ 2 to 3 million.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Hasham Ar-Refaei, advisor to the RAK Government on IT affairs, said Navayuga Group had expressed its willingness to establish itself in the RAK by opening a centre for geo-informatics to give spatial solutions in GIS, GPS, cartography and other applications.

The first phase of the project would cover 9 per cent and the later phases the entire RAK.

The Government was planning to create a GIS database based on which it would go for development of applications to meet future requirements.

The Government was keen on attracting Indian firms involved in different IT applications and it was in touch with a few other Indian companies which expressed keenness in locating operations.

The Government of RAK was creating the necessary infrastructure for providing good atmosphere for business in the UAE, he added.
