Maoists release kidnapped Indian tourists
Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN:
The Nepalese authorities handed over Lucky Singh and Rajeev Kumar, the two Indian tourists who were kidnapped by Maoists a few days ago, to the Indian officials at the Banbasa border in Naini Tal district on Wednesday.
The duo, hailing from Chandigarh, had crossed over to the Nepal side from the Gadda Chowki at 6 p.m. on August 12 and went to district Dang, about 300 km from the Indian border as tourists, the Champawat Superintendent of Police, Mohan Singh Bangyal, said.
They were kidnapped by Maoists from the Mona Lisa Bar where bar girls were performing and taken to their strong hold at Jimuah. The two were handed over to human rights activists on Wednesday morning who in turn handed them over to the local Nepalese officials who brought them to the border and handed them over to the Sub Divisional Magistrate at Banbasa, Mr Bangyal said.
