Rs. 1 crore to be spent on Rayalaseema cultural centre

Staff Reporter

The region has a glorious tradition in art and literature

KURNOOL: President of Rayalaseema Hakkula Ikya Vedika T.G. Venkatesh announced establishment of Rayalaseema Cultural Academy to protect the cultural art forms of the region.

Addressing the second anniversary of the organisation here on Tuesday, he said an amount of Rs. 1 crore would be spent on the centre. He said Rayalaseema region had produced great poets, composers and writers who flourished here in the past as well as now. However, film-makers were trying to project only faction violence as the district's core culture.

He said only 300 factionists existed in the region and people had disowned them long ago. Majority of the population was peace-loving and disciplined. The Government could do anything with them including hunting them down. He appealed to movie-makers not to dwell on mindless violence as the culture of this region as they may encounter a vehement protest in future.

Even those who plan to insert such violent episodes as part of the film would better drop the idea.

He said if Krishna water was diverted to Rayalaseema the floods in coastal Andhra and the drought in this area could have been avoided.
