With a strong network and wide presence, Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) is gearing up to open 140 special Onam markets and five metro fairs 1,100 Onam mini-fairs across the State to cater to consumers during the festive season. Vegetables and provisions will be sold at the special markets and fairs. Supplyco will open Onam outlets in the city at Thripunithura, Palluruthy, Mattancherry, Aluva, Piravom and Kothamangalam. The Onam Metro Fairs will commence on August 23, while Onam markets on August 26. The outlets will function till the eve of Thiruvonam. During the recent past, the customer base of Supplyco has seen a significant rise and now has a steady customer base of 10 lakh. The corporation expects its sales turnover in the current year to touch Rs.1,000 crore. Supplyco created a record by achieving a turnover of Rs.76.67 crore in July through its Maveli stores, Labham Markets and Sabari Super Stores. This financial year, the corporation has so far netted a sales turnover of Rs.701 crore, a rise of 18 per cent over the previous financial year when sales total was Rs.574 crore. During 2003-04, the sales turnover was Rs.453 crore.
