NEW DELHI: Grandmaster Tejas Bakre (three points) continued to share the second spot after holding seventh seed Armenian GM Ashot Anastasian in the fourth round of the Abu Dhabi International chess tournament in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Woman International Master Kruttika Nadig did well to hold GM Faruk Bistric of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Vijayalakshmi beaten
At Athens, second seeded Woman Grandmaster S. Vijayalakshmi suffered a second straight loss after facing Turkey's Woman International Master Betul Cemere Vildiz in 50 moves in the third round of Acropolis International chess tournament. Vijayalakshmi's husband Sriram Jha also lost against Serbia and Montenegro's GM Dragan Solak. S. Meenakshi provided some consolation by beating WIM Vera Papadopoulou of the host country. The results (involving Indians): At Abu Dhabi (fourth round): Ashot Anastasian (Arm, 3) drew with Tejas Bakre (3); Moussa Talek (UAE, 2.5) bt Aswin Jayaram (1.5); Kruttika Nadig (1.5) drew with Faruk Bistric (BIH, 1.5); Shayesteh Gader Pour (Iri, 1) lost to S. P. Sethuraman (2); M. R. Lalith Babu (2) bt Abdulkhaleq Ali (UAE, 1); Ramnath Bhuvanesh (1) lost to Sadegh Mahmoody (Iri, 2). At Athens (third round): Women: S. Vijayalakshmi (1) lost to Betul Cemere Vildiz (Tur, 2); S. Meenakshi (2) bt Vera Papadopoulou (Gre, 1); Open: Sriram Jha (1.5) lost to Dragon Solak (SCG, 2.5).
