KOLKATA: Preliminary tests on samples of soft drinks conducted in laboratories in West Bengal have not revealed the presence of any harmful ingredient. Stating this here on Wednesday, Biman Bose, chairman of the Left Front Committee, said more detailed reports, however, were awaited. He said he was not aware of what the findings of such tests were in other States but was only commenting on the samples collected from different parts of West Bengal. Both the West Bengal Government and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation have arranged for samples of soft drinks, including Coca Cola and Pepsi, to be sent to different laboratories for tests to ascertain the presence of any harmful substance. The KMC had also made an appeal to the authorities of academic institutions and those running public canteens to discourage consumption of such drinks till the results of tests were ascertained.
