Unemployed teachers seek direct recruitment

Special Correspondent

Submit memorandum to Rangasamy

Pondicherry : The Pondicherry State Unemployed Teachers Association has called upon the Administration to ensure that eighty per cent of the posts of the graduate teachers in government schools are filled through direct recruitment.

Association organising secretary S.Vetriselvan in a communication said a number of B.Ed graduates remained unemployed for years together and that they could be appoint in government primary schools.

A resolution adopted at the association meeting appealed to the government to adopt, without compromise, the formula that all private and government-run schools should have the ratio of one teacher for 25 students. This ratio it said would provide more employment opportunities for teachers.

The association demanded that all teachers working in private schools and colleges be paid wages on par with what their counterparts in government institutions got. It sought filling up of teacher posts lying vacant for nearly two years, besides jobs for those left out in the appointment list released in 2005, without delay. The Association also demanded that the candidates who were trained in teaching, but remained unemployed, should be paid a monthly allowance of Rs 2,500 till they got jobs. Mr Vetriselvan said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told a delegation of the association that their demands would be looked into without delay.
