Kashyap, Shruthi reigns supreme

KHAMMAM: Twenty-year-old Hyderabad shuttler P. Kashyap won the men's singles title defeating third seed J.B.S. Vidhyadhar (APBA) 21-19, 11-21, 21-19 in the AP senior inter-district badminton championship which concluded at Jubilee Officers Club here on Wednesday.

In the women's singles final, Junior State champion J. Shruthi of Hyderabad outplayed Krishna's A.L. Aswini Choudary 21-17, 21-19.

Gallant comeback

Kashyap, who was down 7-13 in the final game, staged a gallant comeback by levelling the scores at 18-all. Vidhadhar made a mess of a crucial drop shot, enabling Kashyab to have the last laugh.

J. Shruthi, after clinching the first game comfortably, saw a tough customer in Aswini who took a commanding 15-5 lead in the second game. Aswini, who looked tired, comitted a series of unforced errors and allowed Shruthi to dominate the proceedings.

K. Tanishak and N.N. Vinayak (Hyd) defeated J.B.S. Vidhyadhar and Manoj Kumar (APBA) 21-23, 21-18, 21-19 in the men's doubles final, while Deepthi Priyadharshini and T. Sowmya outplayed Deepthi Shalini and Radhika Reddy 21-15, 21-19 to emerge winners in the women's doubles.

The men's singles winner took home Rs. 8,000 while Shruthi won Rs. 6.900. Men's doubles winner got Rs. 7,000 while the women's double winner received Rs. 6,400.
