CHENNAI:
Water release from the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh was stepped up on Wednesday.
By the evening, about 1,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) was released.
The release began with 200 cusecs on Tuesday.
The water might reach zero point at Uttukottai on the inter-State border by Saturday night or Sunday morning, an official of the Public Works Department said here.
The Kandaleru reservoir currently has 26.6 thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft) of water against its capacity of 59 tmc ft. The water received would be stored in the Poondi reservoir, which now has 309 million cubic feet.
Treatment plant works
Nearly 80 per cent of the civil works at the Chembarambakkam treatment plant have been completed in the first phase.
The project is expected to be functional by September.
