JK Tyre National racing

Coimbatore: The opening round of the JK Tyre National racing championship will be held at at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam on Sunday (August 20). About 40 racers are expected to participate.

The LGB Formula Swift, Formula Rolon Chevrolet and the LGB Formula Hyundai, all fitted with the specially designed formula tyres from the JK Tyre, will roar at the Chettipalayam circuit for the first time.

The championship will also mark the much-awaited entry of Team NK, comprising race drivers carefully handpicked by none other than Narain Karthikeyan himself. The lucky four in the team are Ameya Walavalkar, Aditya Akkineni, Akhil Khuslani and Aditya Patel.

The added flavour will be the entry of Team Meco Racing. Leading the challenge will be Akbar Ebrahim, former international racer and father of racing prodigy Armaan Ebrahim.

The others in the seven-member Meco squad include last year's champion Rayomand Banajee, Gautam Maini and Ashwin Sunder from Chennai.

The qualifying rounds will be held on August 19 followed by the main races the next day. — Sports Reporter
