NEW DELHI: Ramesh Kumar will lead the Indian men's kabaddi team to the South Asian Games, which open in Colombo on August 18. Kabaddi competition is scheduled from August 19 to 26. India would be defending its title won in Islamabad in a competition featuring five countries. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal are the other countries in the fray. Interestingly, the existence of kabaddi in the regional games' calendar itself was in doubt after Nepal and Bangladesh had expressed their inability to send teams. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India stepped in and arranged for funds from the International Kabaddi Federation so that competition could be held. Meanwhile, women kabaddi will be making its debut in the South Asian Games. However, only four countries India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will contest for the title. The teams: Men: Naveen Kumar, Vikas Kumar, Dinesh, Jasmer, Rakesh Kumar, Manpreet Singh, Navneet Gautam, Ramesh Kumar, Pankaj Shirsat, Gaurav Shetty, Manoj, Anup Kumar. Coaches: Balwan Singh and J. Uday Kumar. Women: Anuradha, Sumati Poojari, Abhilashma Mathre, Mangla Desai, Pooja, R. Naga Laxmi, Kanchan Rane, Mamta Pujari, Shalini Pathak, Sumita Kumari, Darshana Wakde, Jagriti. Coaches: Padmaja Bala and Sunil Dabas.
