  • Efforts will be made to open a medical or an engineering college in Chamarajanagar: Minister
  • Rs. 38 crore sanctioned for drainage work
  • A 220 kV power substation to be established in rural areas of the district

CHAMARAJANAGAR: District in-charge Minister D.T. Jayakumar said on Tuesday that the district administration had been directed to prepare a master plan for the development of Chamarajanagar district.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said efforts would be made to open a medical or an engineering college here from the next academic year. The Government would extend support if any private organisation came forward to open a medical or an engineering college in the district.

He said steps would be taken to open small-scale industries in the district to ease the unemployment problem. The Government had sanctioned Rs. 38 crore for drainage work which would commence shortly. The second stage of Cauvery drinking water scheme would be implemented in due course.

Mr. Jayakumar said a 220 kV power substation would be established in rural areas of the district at a cost of Rs. 50 crore. He had discussed the matter with the Energy Minister and urged him to take steps to provide quality power supply to irrigation pumpsets, he added.

He said a survey would be taken up in the district to provide Ashraya houses to the houseless. The Government would give Rs. 15,000 subsidy to Ashraya beneficiaries if they paid their share of Rs. 5,000.

A sum of Rs. 10,000 would be given as loan repayable in 60 instalments, he said.

Chamarajanagar MP M. Shivanna, Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha, and Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Jayaram were present.
