Indefinite curfew imposed in Moreh

Imphal: Indefinite curfew has been imposed on Wednesday in the border town of Moreh following widespread protests over killing of a student leader by Kuki militants, officials said.

The curfew came into effect at 10 a.m., the officials said. Militants of the Kuki National Front Military Council (KNF-MC) shot dead Sunil Agarwal president of the All-Manipur Students Union's Chandel district branch on August 11 for ``working against'' the outfit, the group said in a statement.

Official reports said inhabitants of Moreh, which borders Myanmar, strongly protested the killing and various social organisations demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of KNF-MC members who were involved in the crime. In view of the increasing protests, the district authorities imposed a curfew in the town. — PTI
