MAHABUBNAGAR: District Collector V. Usha Rani said that she would hold a meeting shortly with Raichur Collector and irrigation officials of Karnataka State over the issue of submergence in Raichur district due to impounding Krishna water in Jurala reservoir up to full reservoir level (FRL). Presiding over the meeting of Irrigation Development Board of the district, she said that a deadline will be set to complete the relief and rehabilitation programme in the submergence area in Raichur district and after the deadline is over, the Jurala reservoir would be impounded up to FRL even if the Raichur district administration failed to complete the R&R programme.
The Collector announced this decision in IDB meeting when the Wanaparthy legislator G. Chinna Reddy expressed anguish over not storing water in Jurala project, even after completing the construction of dam 11 years ago on the pretext that some area in Raichur district of Karnataka would submerge RDS link canal, he said.
Rabi holiday proposed
The RDS engineering officials proposed Rabi holiday under RDS to undertake modernisation works on RDS main canal and remove silt in RDS reservoir. But, district Collector V.Usha Rani said that the decision on declaring Rabi holiday would be discussed in next IDB meeting. Gadwal MLA D.K. Aruna, Alampur MLA C.Venkatram Reddy and other RDS leaders urged the Collector to initiate neccessary action in this regard.
