Ambulance donated to People for Animals

CHENNAI: An ambulance was donated to the People for Animals (PfA), an animal welfare organisation recently.

Bernadette McEwen, wife of Consul-General for Canada in Chennai, handed over the keys to PfA authorities.

Gib McEwen, Consul-General for Canada in Chennai, released a book titled "BackYard Birds of South India" authored by FXJ Pereira. The book carries a foreword by the world-renowned researcher and primatologist Jane Goodall, U.N. Messenger for Peace and the founder of the Jane Goodall Foundation, which works for the protection of chimpanzees and their habitat the world over.

The proceeds of the book would go towards support and care of animals such as cattle, horses, mules, donkeys, pigs, monkeys, dogs and cats that were rescued from the clutches of cruel death or human violence, from slaughter and from laboratories or when thrown out of homes.

Mr. Pereira's book warms the reader to common birds such as Magpie Robin, the Paradise Fly Catcher, the parakeet, the Oriole that were found in the backyard of the garden. For those who wish to develop bird watching as their hobby into a passion, Mr. Pereira had included a few useful tips on bird folklore, migration and other fascinating information from the world of birds.
