K.T. Sangameswaran
CHENNAI:
The Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating cases relating to alleged bogus insurance claims and fake First Information Reports (FIRs), has completed the task of collecting documents from insurance companies and police stations.
Sources said, if need be, some documents will have to be obtained from Motor Accidents Claims Tribunals where the insurance claims were filed.
The agency is examining witnesses in a couple of cases and the process will start in other cases soon.
The CBI has taken over the investigation of 11 cases relating to bogus claims and two fake FIR cases pertaining to Salem Central Crime Branch and Udumalpet police station. The claims relate to road accident cases registered by Kangeyam, Kodumudi, Neyveli Township, Bhavani, Kottampatti, Manoor, Ramji Nagar, Pasupathypalayam, Namakkal, Kurumbarapalli and Mimisal police stations.
Soon after the 13 cases were handed over to it, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI here formed seven special teams under the supervision of an Additional Superintendent to probe the matter.
The cases were earlier handled by the State Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department.
